Understanding Your Flood Insurance Needs

Flood insurance...don't self-insure

There are high-risk flood zones and low-risk flood zones, and all of us live in one or the other. As demonstrated dramatically in 2024, floods can indeed occur in low-risk zones.

If a home is located in a high-risk flood zone, mortgage companies require evidence of flood insurance. Unfortunately, since flood insurance is not mandated for low-risk zones, many homes in these areas that sustained flood damage this year were not insured against such damage. Do note that coverage for flood damage, particularly from rising water intrusion from outside, is typically excluded from a standard homeowner’s insurance policy.

Our recommendation is to use the link below to enter your address and determine what flood zone your home is in. Most homes will be in an “X” designated or low-risk flood zone. However, if your home is close to a high-risk flood zone (designated by letters A, AE, A1, AH, V, VE, or V1), we highly recommend that you at least call us for a flood insurance quote.
